During the most critical days of the COVID-19 pandemic, we conducted the CoronaVac phase 3 trial with more than 10,000 volunteers across 24 centers throughout Turkey, along with the TURKOVAC booster dose trials. This experience has been published in international peer-reviewed journals including The Lancet.
The Pandemic Tested Us — We Delivered
In late September 2020, while the world was still grappling with the pandemic, we took on the operational responsibility for one of the largest phase 3 vaccine trials ever conducted in Turkey. The simultaneous activation of 24 centers, the screening and randomization of thousands of volunteers, the two-dose schedule, and safety surveillance — all of this ran under pandemic restrictions.
In the same period, we also took part in the booster dose trials for TURKOVAC, the domestic Turkish vaccine. The resulting data were published — alongside the CoronaVac phase 3 results — in The Lancet and Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics. The data from these trials underpinned the emergency use authorizations of both vaccines (CoronaVac: January 13, 2021; TURKOVAC: December 22, 2021); with CoronaVac, Türkiye procured more than 100 million doses in total and launched its national vaccination program on this evidence.
